You could do fun things like this.
I was invited to a friend's "Ladies Christmas Party" again this year, and it was so much fun. Great ladies, great food, conversation, and plenty of laughter! Too bad I forgot to bring out my camera to capture the evening!
We were asked to bring a $10 gift card for an exchange. I wanted mine to be something different and creative. (For instance, there were 5 or 6 to Starbucks, 3 other coffee ones, and at least 3 or 4 to Bath and Body Works.) I wanted to bring something no one else would think of. Something different, but fun.
I thought I'd try Ebay! Then whoever gets it can find the perfect treasure. I admit, it's got limited appeal, since some people fear internet shopping, and especially auction sites, but it was the most creative thing I could think of.
The problem is, if you buy a gift certificate online for just about anything, all you get is an ugly e-mail. Enter Photoshop Elements!
Using the tricks I knew from digital scrapbooking, I was able to recreate the e-bay logo (there weren't any good enough quality on the website to enlarge and use), then make a gift card with the code they sent, and a holder to tuck it in. I was pleased with the final product, and I hope the recipient was able to find something really fun to spend it on.

That is brilliant! I haven't tried the digital scrapbooking yet, tempted, but haven't tried. I would feel guilty about all the paper stuff I still have that I've had for about 4 years and haven't really used...it's been that long since I've seriously scrapbooked. Wait, think I did it once or twice in the last 4 years, once was at a weekend retreat, but other than that, haven't done much. Anyway, I love the idea of the gift card from Ebay...I would never have thought of that.
