Yesterday was World Autism Awareness Day. So we went to ice cream to celebrate a little part of what makes Sam so special. I love that he was proud. I love that he liked being the reason we all got to celebrate together. I love that at least for one day, there was nothing negative about being autistic. (Asperger's is on the Autistic Spectrum - Very High Functioning Autism.) I hope I can find ways to make him realize that Asperger's is a blessing - that despite the struggles, there are also great gifts within Asperger's that God chose just for Sam.
On the way to get ice cream, Hallie (never wanting to feel left out) asked "Mama, when am I going to get Autism?"
"Sorry Hallie, you're either born with it or you're not, I'm afraid you weren't." Poor Hallie.

Grat idea! I love that you celebrated how he is unique.

I just love your perspective on Sam's Asperger's. It's so refreshing. Thank you for sharing!
