We have to take advantage of the opportunities God affords us for learning.
Like lice! Might as well learn all we can while they're here, since we NEVER INTEND TO GET THEM AGAIN! (Dreaming, I know.)
I am in love with these "Giant Microbes". I saw them at a local education supply store back in September and was looking forward to an excuse to buy one. Now, lice isn't exactly what I had in mind, but it works. This is a giant louse plush. They also have just about every malady you can think of from the common cold to H1N1... E-coli is especially cute. And for my friends studying Marine Biology... there's a whole section on "Aquatics."
We're doing a mini unit study on lice. I've got a few online resources, and these books (and the microbe) arrived last night.
The last one should be coming today. How's this for the perfect title?:
The lice update:
We ordered a special metal lice comb, and it's amazing what it will pull out! After I spent an hour and a half picking every single nit out of Natalie's hair on Sunday, I used the comb on her on Monday and pulled out 10 or so nymphs (baby lice... crawling, biting, but too young to lay eggs.) Yesterday, I pulled out some in the morning, and some more in the evening. And 10 more this morning. They are TEENY. I must be catching them as they hatch. Sam and Hallie have been completely clear since the treatment. I found 2 live nymphs on myself on Monday, and one this morning. The end is in sight, friends. I'll be doing one more treatment on everyone today or tomorrow, and continue to nit-comb everyone until the last louse is extinguished.
The Natalie update:
Court date today. Her SW hasn't told me what time, but we expect to hear from him today. This hearing is where he will recommend that Natalie's "plan" be changed from reunification to adoption. It's a long-shot, folks. The tribe is pretty anti-adoption. And even if they DO change her plan to adoption, that doesn't mean our little white family with our little blonde children will be considered an appropriate home for her. I hope to have an update tomorrow. We don't know what God's plan is for this child in regards to our family. If given the opportunity, we'll gladly adopt her. But for now, just pray for God's perfect will for Natalie and for our family.

I love that you're taking advantage of this not-so-fun opportunity to learn about lice! And I loved the giant microbes when I saw them too! Fun.

We have an animated "Arthur" DVD about lice. (It came free with a lice treatment. Isn't that nice?) It's called "The Lousy Week," I think. Wanna borrow it? :o)

Oh, I feel for you. Good for you for making lemons out of lemonade! Love the microbe. I'll have to go check out those marine ones.

I hope for your sake and hers the tribe sees past your color and sees how much you love your kids and how hard you work to give them the best. Pajama rides for ice cream? Come on! Spending countless hours talioring there education? Amazing.
