Busy week.
MONDAY: Cub Scout Meeting. Sam got his Bear rank. First in the pack again this year. He's very proud of that and was bummed when December's meeting was cancelled on account of snow and postponed until January. He was afraid someone else would slip in there and earn rank before him! I also had to break the news to him that he's going to miss out on his perfect attendance award this year (another of his favorite things about scouts) because of an upcoming vacation.
TUESDAY: Theatre. We saw "MVP: The Jackie Robinson Story", which was very good and although geared for 4th-8th graders, really brought segregation to light for our kids in a way that they could understand. The main actor addressed the audience before the play, letting them know that they'd be using really bad language ("the N word") in order to make the scenes as realistic as possible. I thought it was well handled... though it went right over at least one of my kids' heads. In one scene (depicting a restaurant) the line "We don't serve ***'s here", Hallie leaned over to me and whispered loudly "DID SHE SAY THAT RESTAURANT DOESN'T SERVE NUTRIENTS?!"
WEDNESDAY: Rock Climbing. Hallie's girl scout troop is going rock climbing and the siblings are invited to come along, too. We went a few years ago for a birthday party and both kids loved it, so they've been really looking forward to today.
THURSDAY: Going down to my brother's house (that's the preliminary plan anyway), to introduce our dog to theirs and of course, see sweet Lizzie. :)
FRIDAY: Foster parent meeting, training, dinner.
Natalie's SW came over on Monday, reiterated that the tribe is not allowing adoptions AT ALL right now, nor are they approving even guardianships. We discussed trying to find a foster family for her that we may be able to keep in contact with. ETD: anywhere from a week to a month. I need to put together an album to send with her, and start packing her things. We've accepted what's to come. We're not torn and ragged like we were with Tyler and Hailey. Not because we care about her less... but because she was never "ours." It's different when they're placed for adoption and told they'll be yours. But we always knew there was a possibilty Natty would have to leave us. In the meantime, the hugs and snuggles last a little longer, trying to "fill her up" before she leaves. And we look forward to the positives... being able to sleep at night... being able to go swimming without her freaking out... being able to stay in a hotel without fear of being kicked out from her screaming...
The very end of February we're going on vacation. And we're going to sleep. And we're going to stay in a hotel without fear. And we're going to swim. Saying goodbye won't be easy, but we can look at the bright side!
