What has these children so enraptured so early in the morning?
Some brand-new fangled technological wonder?
Nope. A goodwill find. $4.99... (plus a few dollars more on e-bay for accessories.)
An "old-style", shoe-box tape recorder. The kind we all had 25 or more years ago. Doesn't the sight of it just make you ITCH to make a "mix tape"?
My children are all in agreement that it's the coolest toy ever. They are taking turns singing songs and reading books into it, then listening to themselves. (Good thing I got THREE tapes on e-bay instead of just one.)

You should have them read a story into it and save it. Listen to it again in a year and they'll be amazed by how much they've learned.

Hi! I'm just a lurking long-time reader of yours (found you via Renee's blog) I was just cleaning out some old boxes, and I found an un-opened package of 8 empty 60 minute tapes. I immediately thought of you. If you would like them, and are not to scared to give your mailing address to a complete stranger from the internet...then email me, and I would be more than happy to send them to you for free. It would be much better for your kids to make good use of them than for me to chuck them in the garbage. I have a blog you can check out to ensure that I am a nice, normal person and not an axe murderer. www.avital.blogspot.com
My email is avital at gmail dot com.

Wow, I remember making up stories and telling them into the microphone (our's had an attached microphone) thinking I might have to hit the Goodwill and get one of those for our kids, especially the dramatic one (s) to utilize. How fun!
