One of the things I'm really enjoying about being part of the TOS Crew is discovering new companies that I wasn't familiar with before. That was the case with this latest one.
The Corps of Re-Discovery was started by a homeschool family in 2001. They carry craft kits and other related products revolving around American Indians, Frontiersmen, Pioneer and Colonial, general leatherworking and more. What a great supplement to any early American study.
We got a kit to make a "Fringe Pouch." This leather pouch kit included everything we needed to make the project, right down to the needle. The pieces were pre-cut and pre-punched, so assembly was simple... even for those who have never done a sewing project before!
Since that's what I wanted to test, I gave it to my one child who had NEVER sewn anything in his life... Gideon.
I had to help him a bit with reading the instructions, but the general idea was so simple, he caught right on and was off and sewing in no time!
The project definitely held his interest. He finished it in just a few days, with no nagging from me - he WANTED to complete it. Even when things got frustrating (a few times he would miss a hole when sewing and I'd have to help him take out his stitches to try again), he was excited enough about the project to keep on.
He did a great job and was so proud of finishing. (Gideon isn't particularly what you would call "crafty", but this was such a great BOY project - leather just screams "ADVENTURE!")
The pouch is great quality, and he's been hauling around rocks and marbles in it. (I had to retreive it from his BED to get a photo!) I would definitely recommend this product and any others on their site if they are as good of quality, which I imagine they woud be.
The fringe pouch kit costs $14.99, but I see it's on sale right now for $11.99. I've got my eye on those moccasin kits next... my children have all been wanting slippers, and it would be so fun to have them sew their own as a school project!

Lovely review-I am glad your son persevered and finished it! Nice job. FM Sheri
